[volátil] Luceni Hellebrandt (dia 12 mar 2020)

“There’s just this for consolation: an hour here or there when our lives seem, against all odds and expectations, to burst open and give us everything we’ve ever imagined, though everyone but children (and perhaps even they) know these hours will inevitably be followed by others, far darker and more difficult.” (p. 225)

[The Hours] Michael Cunningham (1998)

FEATURE. I was asked to be involved in SEINE magazine, an annual print publication exploring women in their creative spaces. Featuring a series of interviews and portraits of influential and successful women in the arts, SEINE explores how the different spaces we inhabit can influence creative practice. “Since touring the world with her girlfriends band, Hannah Marshall left behind a successful career in fashion design and propelled herself into the music industry as a visual artist and creative director. It is apparent, however, that music has always been intrinsic in Marshall’s work. Predominantly known for her all-black aesthetic, she has previously designed bespoke clothing for musicians such as Savages, The xx, Florence Welch and Janet Jackson. With a strong focus on female musicians, Marshall has more recently directed her first music video.” Millie Grace Horton, SEINE magazine. Other women featured include: Annie Leibovitz, Katerina Jebb, Jane Birkin, Tallulah Harlech, Zoe Bedeaux, Alex Box, Antonia Marsh, Tati Compton, Julie Anne Stanzak, Amanda Harlech, Polly Brown, Anna Burns, Jessamine-Bliss Bell, Sarah Kathryn Cleaver, Drake Burnette, Claire Barrow, Rauwanne Northcott and Hannah Martin. [just another fuckin’ day aiming 4 nothing] Luceni Hellebrandt (2016)

[reflex – self portrait] Luceni Hellebrandt (2015)

The Scottish band formed by the Reid brothers in the 80’s are a tough one.

Mixing introspective, chaotic, drugged, nihilistic lyrics with noise guitars, Jim Reid (the singer brother) said once that the band was influenced by the bad music from the 80’s…once it was just crap music running on the radios, he and his brother (William) decided to start a band. The result: The Jesus And Mary Chain

Last year, I finally could see them live. Probably that performance was far from one of the best J&MC’s concerts, with a lot of sound return problems annoying Jim, besides some interruptions to little fight/chats with William, but magic also happens: At the first chords of “Happy When It Rains”, started to rain!!!

It will be always a beautiful memory for me. You can see the entire concert here:

And, if you want to really know the subversive of J&MC, I recomend you to listen at least the first 3 records:
– Psychocandy;
– Darklands;
– Barbed Wire Kisses.
